Yata’s 12 Days of Anime – 2015 – #10: The Rolling Girls and Colorful Joyrides

In a world increasingly filled with CG backgrounds and poor lighting saturation, Studio Wit’s watercolor work is always soothing to lay eyes on.

Especially when it’s exploding into rainbows and shit. Welcome to The Rolling Girls. We’ve got punk rock, crocodiles, and aliens. Come for the moe, stay for literally everything else.

Yata’s 12 Days of Anime – 2015 – #11: Sequels and Fulfilled Potential

Pictured above, Gatchaman Crowds Insight, Oregairu 2, Noragami Aragoto, and DRRR!!x2 all aired this year as wonderful sequels, on par with or better than their originals. 2015 in general was a pretty strong year for sequels, and not just because at least 5 or more seemingly aired each season. I always appreciate a quality sequel when it comes, but to have at least one each season rival or outperform their predecessor is a gift.

Yata’s 12 Days of Anime – 2015 – #12: Yurikuma Arashi and Stupid Catchphrases

Fellow writer Harubro and I go way back. I think we discovered our shared love for the same shows back in 2012, and since then, it’s rarely happened that one of us loves something the other doesn’t. Up until this year, I could probably count the times that’s occurred with just my ten fingers. But when we started FGJ, we pushed ourselves to attempt watching more seasonal shows than usual for great justice, and we also realized with more speculative picks comes the greater opportunity for our opinions on said picks to diverge.

As early as January, diverge they did with Yurikuma Arashi. My reaction: “Kunihiko Ikuhara fans such as myself will like this.” Haru’s reaction:

Yata’s 12 Days of Anime – 2015 Intro Post

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 10.09.11 PMHey everyone, Yata here. I’m not entirely sure how this 12 Days of Anime sensation first started or how it caught on, but every anime blogger and their mother seems to be doing it, so hey, why not FGJ? Due to extenuating circumstances on behalf of all three of us this fall, we’ve gone far too long without posting anything, but the holiday season is my saving grace and I now have the time to crank out some quick articles as we lead up to Christmas. From my understanding, the 12 Days of Anime can be about anything anime-related that the writer experienced over the course of the year, regardless of when the actual work, event, or news actually came out, but because 90% of any anime I watched this year was indeed from this year, I’m just gonna stick to my guns and cover twelve of the most memorable ani-things 2015 had to offer. I’ve done plenty of anime write-ups over the last two years, but this will be my first go at crafting a 12 Days of Anime collection, so I’m pretty excited and my hopes are high! Come back for the first post in the series on Sunday, December 13th, and return for a new entry in the countdown posted each day between then and Christmas Eve. I’ll try to keep links below updated as each article gets added.

Final Thoughts – Summer 2015

Yo guys, it’s Haru here.

Better late than never, I return to share my final thoughts on the shows of the summer so that I may finally lay this overall disappointment of a season to rest. L-K is still crafting his evil plans for world domination, and Yata is still puzzled attempting to figure out ways to prevent his college classmates from discovering his fancy for Prison School, so 2/3 of the For Great Justice team is still M.I.A. for the time being. Hopefully this means I’ve snagged the unanimous consensus vote for FGJ MVP, if such an award were to exist, right?

….right? ._.

Onto my ramblings about cartoons we go:

Fall 2015 Season Preview

Fall is coming. Prepare for pumpkin spice everything, spooky halloween things, and jacket weather. I couldn’t be more eager for the sweltering weather to end, quite frankly.

Hello everyone, this is Harubro! Unfortunately for us, and for you, the For Great Justice trio will not be able to assemble to record a podcast preview of the upcoming Fall 2015 season. L-K is off doing dastardly L-K things and Yatabro is neck-deep in his first semester of college. Kind of a shame, really, because we managed to tally over 1000 listens to our Summer preview podcast, which we were pretty stoked about. Worry not though, because your consolation prize is an *extremely* hastily thrown together season preview article written and delivered at the last second by yours truly!

Aren’t you all hyped up already~? (No? Too bad.) Let’s have a look at what I think looks watchable this Fall!

Summer 2015 – Act 2 Update

Hey, folks. Summer may be rapidly approaching its end, but as far as anime is concerned, these summer shows are just ramping up for the homestretch. Yata and Haru are back again to bring you some updated thoughts on the summer season with two out of three months complete. We’re making do with what we have in this slim pickings season, and some stuff we didn’t think much of at first is proving to be surprisingly consistent. Who’s still going with what? And how is everything faring with one month to go? All this and more on our second mid-summer update!

Summer 2015 – Act 1 Update

Hey, folks. Summer was looking like one of the weakest anime seasons in recent memory, but Haru and Yata found a few things worth sticking with past first impressions week. With another month under their belt, how many will continue to make the cut this time?

(Hopefully a lot, because…)

By the way, although it’s been almost one year since this site’s inception, we’re still changing things up a bit and trying to work out some kinks. The midseason update articles used to be awkwardly titled with fractions, but it’s about time for that to change. At the moment, we’re going with this title format for future monthly updates, but if you have any suggestions, comment and let us know!

Anyway, on to the shows:

First Impressions – Summer 2015

Ah, summer. The nice fresh air, vacations and road trips, unbearable heat…bugs…work…nevermind, why go through that when you could stay in and watch fuckin’…anime? Haru and Yata watched a handful of pilots (only pilots) from this first week of the summer season and are here to tell you their thoughts. God Eater isn’t out yet, and I think that’s the only notable thing not included here. The outlook on this season going in was that it would be carried by a few sequels and we weren’t expecting much out of the new shows. Some surprised us, if only barely, and some raised the bar. Hell, Haru and Yata even disagreed about multiple things for once! What’s worth watching and worth moving on from already? Us bros give you the low-down on summer 2015.

Final Thoughts – Spring 2015

Screen Shot 2015-07-03 at 8.27.46 PM
Yes, we’re aware it’s now July and thus already season transition time again. Sorry for the late publishing, but we were holding out for Blood Blockade Battlefront’s finale, which now seems to be on indefinite hiatus, though given the information it will be over a half-hour in length, I think we can expect a great conclusion. We’ll get that to you at some point, but we obviously can’t wait any longer to touch on the rest of this season’s finales. What ended well? What did we not care for yet somehow finish? And what was totally dropped? The answers lie ahead in this season’s final thoughts article!
