Summer 2019 was one of the most stuffed anime seasons for the shounen genre in ages. Here at For Great Justice, we…mostly didn’t follow it. But hey, if you want some commentary on awkward high school girls, gay dorks in a band, and The Resistance…I N S P A C E, then we’ve got you thoroughly covered. You know the drill; 2 writers, 13 shows, 1 article. Let’s wrap up this surprisingly diverse season in style!
It’s week seven of the season, and you know what that means: FGJ update time. All in all, summer is looking like a solid recovery from the doldrums of last season, but we still have a few surprises in store for you: a couple drops, some wishy-washier opinions, and even a…well, you’ll see at the end. We promise it’ll be worth it. As for the rest, you know the drill. Let’s run these seasonals down.
Right off the heels of one of the weakest overall seasons in recent memory, anime is back and summer is bringing the heat! By the end of this past spring, I think we here at FGJ had finished a combined like…6 shows? In comparison, we’re covering triple that in this loaded round of first impressions. But how many are we sticking with—and which ones? Some obvious choices and some oddball surprises alike made the cut. Let’s run ’em down!
Spring is just around the corner (if not already here), but the Megalo Boxes and Special Weeks and Tri Hero Academias can wait just a while longer: first things first, winter has ended, and what a winter this season was. This seasonal transition period was a bit tight, though: Yata and Haru both watched more than what they had time to cover here, but hopefully the quality will outweigh the quantity. The outcomes probably won’t surprise you either, but find out below what For Great Justice loved and simply put up with as this noteworthy winter anime season came to a close!
Hello, everybody, and welcome back for this mid-season update on For Great Justice! First things first, sorry for the one-week delay: Yata got the flu a short while ago and had to catch up academically, and Haru got bogged down at work and had to catch up on anime itself (some of which he just dropped, and frankly, that’s probably a good call). But better late than never! This season’s still managing to impress overall, and we’re excited to finally check in on how everything’s faring. What are our favorites? What’s falling short? And is Citrus good, actually? There aren’t too many hot takes this time, but there are a few down there, and now’s as good a time as any to check them out before we reach our final thoughts next month. Read on!
It’s a new year, but here at For Great Justice, we’re the same old us. For our first post on the subject of 2018, Yata and Haru did the usual, watching a ton of this new winter season’s premieres and whipping together some initial thoughts on them. In a season defined by popcorn shows, how did the ambitious hypetrains fare? Which said popcorn shows are the best? And will we ever stop cringewatching the problematic content of the season? The answers to all those questions and more below! Let’s kick off the new year right!
