mid-season review

Spring 2020 Mid-Season Thoughts

As the world continues to be a mess, this season’s animethe ones that haven’t halted production, at leastcontinue to be pretty damn good. Between the sticky summer weather beginning to rear its head and the crazies taking to the streets from ill-informed sociopathy, this is a damn good time to stay indoors and watch some fuckin’ anime, and that’s what we at FGJ have been up to. However, Haru’s been under the weather lately and needed to prioritize getting rest, so this is a solo Yata mid-season update, with all the rambling, big words, and unproofread self-fellatio you’ve come to expect from the site’s Most Chaotic One. The brand lives on. Buckle up for some aggressively positive takes.

Winter 2020 Mid-Sesaon Thoughts

If we at For Great Justice have anything to say about it, the world ain’t gonna end from freak viruses or pathetic presidential candidate discourse before we get through the upcoming stacked spring anime season, but even that’s getting a little too ahead of ourselves. It’s still winter, and winter has its fair share of gems to celebrate and duds to discard. It’s been about a month since we last chatted, so without further ado, Yata and Haru are back to update you on what we think about this season’s roster just past the halfway point.

Fall 2019 Mid-Season Thoughts

Put Sword & Shield down. Block out the fact that the holidays are right around the corner. Anime is still airing and for the next however many minutes, we here at For Great Justice are gonna do our damn best to remind you about that. Thankfully, that shouldn’t be too hard; this fall is full of great titles and slow-burning underdogs that could snowball into best-of-the-year contenders if all goes well. Halfway through the season, here are Yata and Haru with their thoughts.

Summer 2019 Mid-Season Thoughts

It’s week seven of the season, and you know what that means: FGJ update time. All in all, summer is looking like a solid recovery from the doldrums of last season, but we still have a few surprises in store for you: a couple drops, some wishy-washier opinions, and even a…well, you’ll see at the end. We promise it’ll be worth it. As for the rest, you know the drill. Let’s run these seasonals down.

Spring 2019 Mid-Season Thoughts

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s an extremely underwhelming mid-season update in terms of quantity. This time around, Yata’s the only one participating and he’s only watching…four seasonals. As such, this rundown will be brief, but it’s better than nothing. Find out what some of this spring’s most renowned titles and an outlier or two have been up to on this short and sweet For Great Justice update.

Winter 2019 Mid-Season Thoughts

It’s the dead of a…surprisingly mild winter for each of us, but there is still time to get trapped indoors and watch anime, and what a bountiful selection of shows we have to choose from! Between the two of us there’s only one drop beloweverything else we’ve been watching ranges from “good enough” to a potential highlight of the year. Spring 2018 Mid-Season Thoughts

Hello, everybody, and welcome back to For Great Justice. For…hopefully obvious reasons, none of us actually kept up with Darling in the FranXX after its first cour, and this spring, which was already one of FGJ’s lightest in terms of seasonal anime coverage, is about to get even lighter. While a select few shows have confidently muscled their way to the top, others have grown trite and lifeless, which means one thing: drop time. Find out what titles Yata and Haru spared and which they let go of on this mid-season update!

Winter 2018 Mid-Season Thoughts

Hello, everybody, and welcome back for this mid-season update on For Great Justice! First things first, sorry for the one-week delay: Yata got the flu a short while ago and had to catch up academically, and Haru got bogged down at work and had to catch up on anime itself (some of which he just dropped, and frankly, that’s probably a good call). But better late than never! This season’s still managing to impress overall, and we’re excited to finally check in on how everything’s faring. What are our favorites? What’s falling short? And is Citrus good, actually? There aren’t too many hot takes this time, but there are a few down there, and now’s as good a time as any to check them out before we reach our final thoughts next month. Read on!

Fall 2017 Mid-Season Thoughts

The holiday season is imminent and we’re trudging through the end-of-the-year work rush, but it’ll take a little more than that to stop Yata & Haru from scribbling together some updated thoughts on (most of) this fall season’s hit series. Which ones are exceeding our expectations? How are the numerous sequels of the season faring? And most importantly, which shows are we letting go of now that we’ve given them a fair chance? The answers may surprise you – read on!

Summer 2017 Mid-Season Thoughts

Hey, everybody, and welcome back to a somewhat special mid-season update from For Great Justice. It’s not only time to run down what we’ve thought about many of the summer’s most popular shows since first impressions, it’s also mid-August, which means it’s time to celebrate the site’s third birthday! From the bottom of our hearts, whether you’re stumbling upon us now for the first time or go back as far as our clunky early days, thank you for your continued support and readership. It means so much.

Not gonna lie, all of us are a bit antsy lately, so this may be a quicker than usual batch. Yata and Catche are gearing up to head back to college in a week and Haru has been busy alley-crawling at Anime-Fest the last few days, so we’ve all got a bit on our plates, but that’s rarely stopped us from getting something out there before, and it sure isn’t going to now. What titles held up from earlier in the season? Which have let us down? And where are we drawing the drop line? Find out all this and more below!
